Characterization of a Cooperative Target for Ground- Penetrating Radar
نویسندگان
چکیده
A cooperative target (CT) has been developed to enhance the ground-penetrating radar (GPR) signal-toclutter ratio for buried man-made targets. Applications include tagging high-value buried structures and monitoring microtunnelling equipment. Results are presented for a time-domain CT, comprised of a dipole antenna connected to an unterminated delay line. Multiple GPR measurements made from separate positions, together with a priori knowledge of the dielectric properties of the intervening ground, allow good estimation of the position of the tagged target through triangulation. By using several independent time-domain cooperative targets, strategically arrayed about a target, the rotational aspect of the target can also be obtained. Finally, harmonic generation is demonstrated as a technique for a frequency-domain CT.

Acoustic wave transducers as Ground Penetrating RADAR cooperative targets for sensing applications
Acoustic wave transducers act as cooperative targets for passive, wireless sensing by converting an incoming electromagnetic pulse to an acoustic wave whose velocity is dependent, by design, with a given quantity under investigation. The acoustic wave is delayed and emitted back to the measurement electronics as an electromagnetic pulse by direct piezoelectric effect. In the context of sub-surf...

Ground penetrating radar (GPR) has been widely used in geologic, hydrogeologic, and civil engineering purposes. Correlated with geological exposures and trenches, GPR data can offer detail subsurface information to past earthquakes investigation. McClymont et al. [2][3] show very good performance of GPR for fault characterization. In this paper, we show an example of practical application of GP...

ENSCO, Inc. is investigating a novel approach to data fusion of magnetic and ground-penetrating radar (GPR) data to characterize previously detected buried targets. The method exploits a single model of the subsurface to predict both magnetic and GPR data observations. By determining the best single model that constrains both data sets, the optimum identification is computed. Using an a priori ...
